Two Paintings 'Romance i and ii' use Feng Shui to Support & Attract A Relationship In Your Life

In celebration of Valentines day, I am featuring two paintings ‘Romance i and ii’ who together are in support of love and relationships!

I’d also like to thank the art collector who recently purchased an open edition print of the rose pink white and light magenta abstract painting of mine entitled ‘Romance ii’ via Saatchi Online Gallery.

This above featured original painting, Romance ii, is part of a diptych and both paintings are each 24 W x 36 H x 1.5 D in Mixed Media on Canvas.

These two modern contemporary paintings were made while I was living in Santa Barbara, California, USA. They were created using a soft flat brush alternating thin layers of translucent pink-gold with gloss varnish as well as washes of magenta and dark pink liquid acrylic paints. The paintings were inspired by the beauty and etherial colours of pink-gold and the joy and love I felt working in this palette.

The colour pink is thought to be calming and associated with love, kindness, and femininity. Many people immediately associate the colour with all things feminine and therefor nurturing. It might also bring to mind romance and Valentine's Day as it often represents femininity and romance.

In the art of Feng Shui, it is recommended to place both these painting in the back right hand corner of your home or a particular room your are decorating, in support of or to attract your relationship and partnership with a meaningful another.

Romance i and Romance ii original paintings are available for your art collection and can be purchased via Saatchi online gallery here: Romance i and ii Paintings by Deb Chaney.

New Work! The Original 'Writing Is In The Air' Black & White Paintings !

The Writing is in the Air - Original Black - II of II (diptych) 24 W x 24 H x 1 D in Ink & Mixed Media on Canvas (c) Deb Chaney 2021

The ‘Writing Is In The Air’ was a series of painting that came and went out of nowhere last year…

What happened was this:

Braid Street Studios where I’d been working were closed down, to be torn down for a new high rise building to be built in its place. During the “evacuation of artists’ a very sweet and kind fellow artist gifted me a whole bunch of bank canvases on her way out!

I decided to do something different with these blank canvases, and played around with pencil and ink, getting my inspiration for these paintings from passages while re-reading ‘The Universe Has Your Back’ spiritual inspiration book by Gabi Bernstein.

(This is a wonderful book, highly recommend it!)

I started each painting by writing down a key phrase or words in acrylic and India inks that really spoke to me and then layered them with water , gesso and acrylic mediums, focussing on simplicity and less-is-more.

If you are familiar with my heavily textured work - sand and gel - this series definitely was a departure for me, but fun to explore!

All that said, this painting, The Writing Is In The Air - Original - Black II’ 24” x 24” x 1” Mixed Media on canvas,

along with its brother painting ‘ The Writing Is In The Air - Original - Black I’ were the first two paintings that started the series and they have a beautifully old-book-like aged quality to them that was really only captured in these first two paintings.

Both of these paintings are available for your collection at Saatchi online gallery. You can purchase them online here:

This Painting Title Was Inspired by Taylor Swift Lyrics....

Loving Him Was Blue 9 W x 12 H x 0.2 D in. Acrylic & Charcoal on Paper (c) Deb Chaney 2021

One of the foundational part of my artistic practice is to continuously create small paintings in my Little Gems Series that are often comprised of left-over paint from the larger format paintings and really all about fun, play and practice.

These small paintings, for me, are like what playing scales are doing voice-warms ups, are for a musician. It’s my painter’s version of a warm up and practice.

If I have a good playlist going while I’m in the studio creating these works, I may hear a lyric that resonates and use it for the title of the painting - in the case of this painting which was inspired by a Taylor Swift song off her Red album - the re-released Taylor’s Version of course.

(Don’t want to upset any serious Taylor Swift fans!)

And for the very discerning Taylor Swift fan, they will know this lyric is from the song Red.

This painting is available for your art collection and can be purchased via Saatchi Online Gallery.

Little Gems Painting Original 'IBLCL vii' Recently Sold

IBLCL 9” x 12” Mixed Media on Paper (c) Deb Chaney 2021

It is always a big honour for me when another artists becomes a collector of my artwork. I would like thank my friend and fellow artist Suman Sengar for becoming a collector of this original piece ‘ IBLBL vii’ 9” x 12” Mixed Media on Paper.

So much love and joy and pure play energy when into this painting and it was created in a series of work

which I created during the intense quarantine period of the pandemic when we were not supposed to leave our houses except for essential needs such as groceries and medical visits. So, as I shared in the blog I wrote last week, I basically used the time to paint and create! … and continue to do so as we continue into year #2 of this pandemic.

If you look very closely into the painting you will see the words: ‘Labor of Love’ that were taken from a found piece of collage from an old book and was part of the painting’s ground and beginning before other elements were added such as spray paint and corrugated cardboard.

I love the complexity and playful energy of this piece. Inter connecting all the layers keeps me busy and focussed in its creation and I feel is a healing experience for me and often for the receiver of the painting.

There are a few more small original paintings in this series available for your collection which you can purchase online here at Saatchi Art Gallery.

New Painting BIWT i ! This Original Modern Layered Textured Abstract Painting is all about the Transformative Power of Creativity!

BIWT i 36 W x 24 H x 0.5 D in mixed media, collage, spray paint on Canvas (c) Deb Chaney 2021

As we continue the experience of the world wide pandemic unexpectedly into its second year the majority of us are in the situation of nowhere to go, not much to do. For artists, this is ideal for creative production and I found myself handling the inability to make travel plans as my ability to go inward and to make art, more art and even more art.

One of my teachers would say that going into her studio and making art was her way of running away from home without really leaving. I love this!

Making art means that I get to dive into unknown world of layers of spray paint, collage, paint gestures, layers of translucent mediums and nobody can stop me! I get to create!

This painting called BIWT stands for ‘ Because I Want To’ and created in series at the time when the quarantine was the most intense.

It is really and truly stands for the power of creative process and how it can be the healthiest and most beautiful way to handle stress, challenges and tragedy.

Angry, frustrated, or fed up with the current situation? Then why no make art about it ? That is how I choose to move forward. My art statement for this painting is the transformative quality of being in creative process and how we can turn challenging emotions into beautiful creations.

This painting is available for your collection and you can purchase it here online at Saatchi Art Gallery.

Helpful Moving Tips for Artists and Art Collectors

If you’re an artist, moving to a new home can be especially stressful. Not only do you have to worry about protecting your essential art supplies throughout the moving process, you might be concerned about transporting sculptures, paintings, or other pieces that you’ve collected over the years. But with advanced planning, you can navigate the process with ease. And when you arrive in your new home, you can spruce it up with unique paintings by Deb Chaney! Here are a few tips on protecting your valuable art supplies and beloved artwork.

Tackle Home Repairs First
Before you begin the process of carefully storing and packing your fine art pieces, you’ll need to take care of a few tasks in your current home. Prior to putting your house on the market, it’s a good idea to tackle minor repairs on your own. This will make the property more appealing for buyers and help you sell on a faster timeline. You can also hire contractors to take care of more labor-intensive repairs, like fixing cracked windows or leaking pipes.

Hire Professional Movers
You might be nervous to entrust any of your art supplies or pieces to anyone but yourself. But professional movers who have experience working with fragile items can be a big help during your move. To find the right moving company, Neighbor recommends calling several companies and asking them to come to your home so they can assess your inventory. Tell them about your unique packing needs. They can discuss their procedures for packing and transporting fragile items and give you an accurate price quote.

Get the Right Supplies

Even if you’re hiring professional movers, there’s a good chance that you will be handling much of the packing process on your own. In order to pack up large items like a kiln oven or blank canvases, you’ll need the right supplies. Get large boxes that can comfortably fit these items, and make sure you have packing materials to cushion them, like unprinted news wrapping paper, bubble wrap, and even furniture pads.

Storing Fine Art
What if you’ll be living with friends or family in between moving out of your current home and moving into your new one? You’ll need to put some items, including your art supplies and artwork into temporary storage. If you’ll be storing artwork, you’ll need to select a storage space very carefully. Art Business News states that you should clean your artwork first with a soft microfiber cloth and cover it with cloth or parchment paper. Ideally, you’ll want to store your artwork in a dark, windowless, climate-controlled space with about 50 percent humidity and a temperature between 70 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit.

Handling Fragile Items
You may want to unpack your fragile items shortly after arriving for peace of mind. Although working with reliable, experienced movers will greatly decrease the chances of a mishap, it’s important to know what to do if something valuable should break in the course of your move. If any of your art supplies or pieces of artwork are damaged, you will need to carefully assess the extent of the damage and file a claim with the moving company. Furthermore, for extra protection, you may want to get insurance for your most valuable items before you move. While this is an additional expense, you might feel more secure knowing that you have another option for reimbursement.

Packing up your art supplies and art collection for a big move can be nerve-wracking. But you can easily preserve all of these items while you relocate. With the right strategy, you’ll arrive at your new home with all of your most important belongings in great condition!

New Work! The Writing Is In The Air Magenta - Watercolour Style Painting

This new original contemporary abstract art piece was created recently in late 2021 in a small series of paintings called ‘The Writing Is In The Air’ . The series was inspired by a very inspirational personal growth book I was re-reading for about the third time called The Universe has your Back by Gabrielle Bernstein. I started each painting in the series by writing on penciled in lines (like a large note book created on canvas) choosing phrases and statements I found particularly uplifting and placing them in cursive using acrylic inks and liquid acrylics along the lines of the paintings. The fun began when the words smudged and dripped into each other and became their own hieroglyphic art form of energy meaning rather than their literal words. It was so fun I had to paint more, hence the series was born!

‘The Writing Is In The Air - Magenta’ original painting as shown above is 30” x 40” x 0.5” mixed media on canvas. In Its colouring its predominantly purple, also with hints of magenta, violet, orchid pink, lavender, lilac, mauve, plum, amethyst, heliotrope, mulberry, pomegranate, wine, amaranthine, blue-violet, bluish-red, perse, reddish blue and violaceous. (Just in case you were wondering.) :-) These colours are in synergy with and elevate the imagination and spirituality. It is an introspective color, allowing us to get in touch with our deeper thoughts. Purple or violet assists those who seek the meaning of life and spiritual fulfillment - it expands our awareness, connecting us to a higher consciousness. For this reason it is associated with transformation of the soul and the philosophers of the world are often attracted to it.

Using the principle of Feng Shui and overlaying the ‘Bagua’ on the layout of your home or bedroom. Place this painting in the back left hand corner of your living/working space to further support and accentuate the area of wealth and prosperity in your life.

Paintings Selected for Surrey Art Gallery Sales and Rentals Programme

I would like very much to thank the jury and selection panel for the Surrey Art Gallery for choosing five of my large format original abstract paintings for the Surrey Art Gallery Sales and Rentals Programme . The painting shown above ‘Self-Kindness’ i of ii diptych is 36” x 48” x 1.5” mixed media on canvas is satin finish varnished, wired and signed on the back and is ready and available now for your office, home, TV of film set. For immediate rental please  contact Art Rental Manager at artrental@sagabc.com. This one of a kind, textured, unique modern contemporary abstract painting is predominantly snow white in colour with accents of periwinkle, gold and black. We’ll get into the colour meaning and Feng Shui of its mainly white colour in this blog. Self Kindness ii of ii is shown below and of the same measurements and “ingredients” so-to-speak. Both paintings are inspired by the quest to live with a feeling of self love, consideration and empathy.

About the colour white, as its the predominant player in this painting here. White, also referred to as colorless, tintless, uncoloured, undyed, unpainted, unstained,  blanched, clear, fair frosted, ivory, unpigmented, bleached, natural; snowy, milky, chalky, snow white, snowy white, milk white, milky white, chalk white, or chalky white, is the colour that represents fresh new beginnings. It is a colour associated with the divine. Spiritually, it is correlated with rebirth and renewal, love, light and illumination. I often recommend to hang up and include in your interior design a white painting in support of a re-start in your life!

Using the ancient art of Feng Shui, conscious object placement to accentuate and support a chosen area of your life, you would take a predominantly white painting like Self-Kindness I and II, or these other paintings that are currently in inventory and also mainly white; Sometimes the Journey can be Uncomfortable, Crossing Over i of ii, O and place them in the centre right hand side of your home/office/single selected room. This consciously done would support you in creating joy and inspiration around the areas of creativity and children. Remember children can be your creative creations projects and dreams, not only literal children. :-)

The three other selected original abstract mixed media paintings for the Surrey Art Gallery Sales and Rentals Program were; Acknowledgement (also predominantly white) 36” x 48” x 1.5” mixed media on canvas is satin finish varnished, wired and signed on the back and is ready and available now for your office, home, TV of film set. And lastly, Cheap Thrills i and Cheap Thrills ii - each are 30” x 40” x 1.5” mixed media on canvas with a satin finish, wired and ready for rental. Each of the three mentioned paintings available for purchase and rent are all predominantly white, hence the above colour meaning and Feng Shui recommendations would apply.

Emerald Lake by Deb Chaney (9” x 12”)

Using Feng Shui for a more productive office space

In terms of leveraging this predominantly purple-coloured painting in your new office space, using Feng Shui, the following is some gentle guidance to make this painting work for your company. To start, purple, sometimes known as violet, lavender, lilac, mauve, periwinkle, plum, amethyst, indigo, or magenta, is a colour that resonates with wealth, opportunity, and royalty.

Using the Bagua from Feng Shui, if you consciously place this painting in the back left-hand corner of your office, it will accentuate the energies around wealth, prosperity, and blessings. See the illustration below. The bottom line is that if you’re looking to increase the cash flow of your business, by hanging a purple painting in your workspace, you are telling The Universe that you are ready to receive financial flow!

The power of the colour purple

Purple is a powerful colour and often associated with royalty and nobility. A colour that “demands respect’ and can often be associate with an ambitious self-assured leader. This colour is synergistic with luxury and wealth. On a spiritual note, violet and purple are known to support in the practice of meditation, contributing to mental balance and stability, supporting the creation of peace of mind, and aiding in providing a link between the spiritual and the physical worlds. Often artists, musicians, writers, poets and psychics are all inspired by violet and its magic and mystery.

Featured above and below this text, Nature is the Way and Fragments of Life # 30 a couple of other paintings with purple as their predominant colours that are in inventory and available for your art collection as originals (date of this post) and as print reproductions on fine art paper or giclee (print on canvas) to your specified custom size requirements. Any of these would make wonderful and vibrant additions to the interior design of your home, office, hotel or restaurant.

Saatchi Art offers multiple options to suit your personal tastes or needs. Prints can be on paper or canvas and are usually available in 4 sizes – to better fit your room. You have the further option to have it framed in white, black, or natural wood.

The “View In A Room” image on Saatchi Art should give you an idea of its size and let you see what it looks like on a wall.

A 'Blue' Thank you to the Hampton Burlington

A deep ‘Blue’ Thank you to the interior design team of the Hilton Hotel’s Hampton Burlington Inn & Suites l in Washington, USA for choosing to feature a reproduction print image of Deb Chaney’s ‘ A Blue Thank you’ painting. This simple and journal-writing inspired dark azure blue and black India ink is a one of a kind abstract artwork and features watery drips, soft black vertical marks and pieces of white ‘sky’ in its simple modern contemporary aesthetic .

The main colour in this painting, blue - also known as azure, cobalt blue, sky-blue, cerulean, navy blue and ultramarine - is spiritually representative of  intuition, inspiration and inner peace. Blue can be cooling and calming, both mentally and physically.  Blue is known to represent trust and responsibility. It is a great colour to use in interior design to add a quiet, reserved element to your hospitality interior design, your home, or in your personal room that does not draw attention. The frequency of the colour blue denotes inner security and confidence.

Two other original paintings with a similar colour and simple modern contemporary abstract design aesthetic are shown here ‘Tim Sullivan’ and also; ‘So Simple’, and The Writing Is In The Air - Blue. As well, in the Fragments of life Series are several original and very beautiful medium size (23” x 30”) available on the date of this post for a modern and contemporary design look.

Guidance for where to put your blue painting using Feng Shui Placement. Artwork with predominantly blue colouring that is consciously hung on a wall to the left hand side of your home or the left side of a particular room will accentuate the “wisdom” area of your life; that is your inner knowing. This life area include your inner knowledge and parlays into areas of self-improvement. Making a decision to place a blue artwork in this specified region also supports your being with stillness and introspection.

I am honoured to have my artwork featured. And finally, my appreciation to HFA Fine Art Printing Services who rendered this art image into fine art reproductions for the hotel. Thank you.

This unique and spiritually inspired painting is predominantly turquoise in colour which stands for communication and confidence in authentic self-expression. This colours energetically helps to strengthen the connection between your heart and your voice. In colour psychology, turquoise to balance out and supports healing of the emotions, helping one to create greater emotional balance and stability.

There were several other paintings created in the time of this series, two originals of which are available on the date of this post. Below they are shown above and below this text block; The Darkness Inside Makes You Feel So Small and The Darkness Makes The Light Even More Beautiful. These paintings are both 11” x 15” mixed media - acrylics, sand, gold leaf, on 300 pound Arches Watercolour paper and created in a contemporary, modern, and abstract expressionist style. These paintings are part of Deb Chaney’s Little Gems Series - works she does to play, practice and investigate new creative ideas.

Each of these abstract paintings have gold leaf imbued in their layers. Gold is representative of wealth, success and status. It is also considered a powerful healing colour. Gold is synergistic with being optimistic and positive, bringing richness and warmth to everything with which it is associated - it illuminates and enhances other things around it. In the meaning of colors, gold is generous and giving, compassionate and loving, the benefactor or patron, sharing its wisdom, knowledge and wealth with others.

Just Sold 'Drumbeg' Original Mixed Media Abstract Painting

I’d like to thank Dr. Tracey Thorne, MD of the Gabriola Medical Clinic for purchasing and becoming a collector of this unique original mixed media abstract one of a kind painting ‘Drumbeg’ art piece. This painting is highly textured with sand and acrylics and mixed media and was inspired by the time I spent at Drumbeg Provincial Park on Gabriola Island. It is part of a series of small paintings in the Little Gems Series.

Tracey, I’m excited to see where you and your husband decide to hang these paintings! Thank you so much for becoming collectors!

Large scale reproductions of this painting and many other abstract mixed media colourful textured artworks by Deb Chaney are available in the USA via I Canvas in Canada via HFA or order online to ship anywhere world wide at Saatchi Online Gallery. Prints are available in fine art paper, resin pours on wood, and giclee prints on canvas. Reproductions are customizable in size.

If you love original artwork and would love something like this for your home, you may also consider ordering a commission painting . Your journey for this would start with filing out the commission intake form.

Photo above of Deb in her new Gabriola Island studio. It used to be a working carpenter’s workshop so with all the shelves, drawers and counter space the brushes and paints have found their place and art creation and production is beginning again slow but sure!
