Deb Chaney Mixed Media Abstract Painting Featured in Hotel Interior Design

I’d like to thank the fine art prints reproductions and giclee creation team of Vancouver’s Hambleton Fine Art Services HFA for working together with the interior designers at the Ramada Hotel for recommending my painting ‘Cruel Summer’ . This Deb Chaney one of a kind unique abstract mixed media contemporary painting in burnt umber yellow iron oxides reds whites and greys is a modern addition and can up grade any hotel lobby hallway, restaurant or office and at the date of this post the original can be acquired here: https://www.saatchiart.com/art/Painting-Cruel-Summer/499285/6739337/view
Prints on both paper and canvas can be ordered online here: https://www.saatchiart.com/print/Painting-Cruel-Summer/499285/6739337/view.

The predominantly yellow colour palette is symbolic of the colour of miracles and magic. The spiritual significance of the yellow colour frequency is synergistic with confidence, optimism and joy. Yellow can give us clarity of thought and increase awareness to stimulate interest and curiosity. Yellow is also known to connect us to our mental self.

This painting was created within my Little Gems Series of which there are several other original unique abstract mixed media one of a kind original paintings still available for your collection on the date of this post. These include: False God Death by A Thousand Cuts Lover and Daylight. The hardcore Taylor Swift fan will recognize these titles, no explanation needed.

My personal favourite in this mini series is Lover. Shown here:

‘Lover’ 12” x 9” Mixed Media on Paper, Original Available on the date of this post $150 USD .

Interview & Feature with Canadian Abstract Artists

Thank you kindly to Canadian Abstract Artists for the awesome interview (great questions!) and feature. I am deeply appreciative of being able to share my learning. on this journey as a professional artist with yourselves and your audience. Thank you.!

How would you describe your artistic style?

Spiritually Inspired Contemporary Modern Textured Layered Abstract Mixed Media Paintings

What’s the main inspiration for your art?

My inner spiritual journey.

What is the biggest goal you try to achieve with your art?

To feel good.

What’s your favourite thing about being an abstract artist?

With the creation of every painting it has its own challenges – figuring out the balance, the integration of the layers, getting to its state of completion. This process inspires me, teaches me, and has kept my attention for the past 20+ years!

Why abstract art and not other mediums? Have you always created abstract art or did you start out creating other styles?

I’ve always been an abstract mixed media artist since I started painting. It continues to excite me, challenge me, and the process enthrals me … I just don’t want to do anything else at the moment!

If you could describe your art in three words, what would they be?

layered – textured – spiritual

What’s one thing people might not know about you and/or your art journey so far?

I still often go through an experience of a wavering in confidence in myself where I struggle, doubt and fear arise during the process of a painting when its mid-way through. To move through and complete, I use many of my personal growth tools such as my fav anchoring song, pre-recorded self-kindness and inner-child affirmations, and tips from ‘the war of art’ (steven pressfield) – mainly just showing up even if I am scared or “don’t feel like it”.

Did you always know you’d be an artist or how has your art journey progressed?

No, I didn’t always know I’d be an artist… Growing up, because of what I was told, I believed that it was impossible to be a professional artist. I put all my creative thoughts and endeavours aside and got a B.Sc. in Earth and Ocean Sciences… Near the end of my degree I read a SARK book ‘Wild Succulent Women’ and knew that if she could do it – be an artist – so could I. I wrote to her and received a hand-written letter in response. I feel it was an omen of support. My journey had begun. That was about 25 years ago…

In your opinion, what’s the most important personal characteristic needed to embark on a career as an artist?

Belief in yourself and the possibility that you can succeed at what you dream to do.

What advice would you give up and coming abstract artists?

To start, you must believe in yourself and the possibility of your own success – in whatever terms you define it. (write it down, clearly). Then, listen ONLY to the kind, positive, and affirmative voices within your head and to those around you ONLY who support you and your dreams.

Do you have any favourite podcasts or books that you love and that have contributed to your journey as an artist?

I love Tim Ferries, Oprah, Brenee Brown, Abraham Hicks, Eckart Tolle, Joe Dispenza, Tony Robbins, Danielle Laporte, Martha Beck, Christine Northrup.

What’s your most fulfilling and enjoyable experience as an artist so far?

This moment now, writing the answers to this wonderful interview… Knowing there are paintings in process in the studio that I get to work on. Looking out my kitchen window and seeing the forest. Hearing the rain fall on the roof and tree leaves. Feeling inspired, supported and connected. I am deeply grateful to be an artist for my work.

Where do you see yourself and your art in 5 years?

I see myself in my newly build high-ceiling studio with great lighting, water, and heat, creating large scale (48″ x 72″ x 1.5″) mixed media abstract Drishti Paintings (TM) which embody the frequency and vibration of well-being. I see these painting contributing wellness world wide, in particular mental well-being, and doing so in both exhibited spaces such as museums, galleries and biennials. I see these paintings selling to appreciative spiritually-minded and conscious art collectors all over the world.

What do you love most about abstract art?

That you feel good looking at it, that you can always find something new, that in focussing upon it you lose yourself and forget anything that may be troubling you and how abstract art brings you into a journey that you can narrate and make-up as you wish.

Do you have any favourite quotes?

“Don’t think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it’s good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art.” – Andy Warhol

'Fragments of Life # 6' Abstract Painting Featured in Ramada by Wyndham

Thank you so much for the interior designer and hotel management who chose to decorate this hospitality location of Ramada by Wyndham in  Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada with reproductions of my painting ‘Fragments of Life #6’.

The original 23” x 30” one-of-a-kind mixed media contemporary abstract painting was created on Arches 300 pound water colour coldpress paper. Material used were acrylics, pencils and spray paint. The original painting was sold, however reproductions of this modern artwork painting are available for your home/office/interior design project click here:.

This painting is orange in colour and also with black and white. The predominant orange colour resonates with the energies of happiness, resourcefulness and confidence. Orange can bring joy to our day and strengthen our zest for life. It is considered the best emotional stimulate and helps to remove inhibitions.

More paintings in this series can be seen here on this website under the Medium Size Artwork ‘Fragments of Life Series’.

The Fragments of Life Series of abstract paintings began in 2013 and continues to evolve today. Each of these painting is an echo of my own personal evolution and life journey. I  begin with a blank white sheet of roughly textured 23” x 30”  300 pound water colour paper, a palette knife, some heavy body acrylic paint mixed with gel medium and the compelling need to create. In the beginning I often don’t know what the painting is about. As the process evolves, I learn about the painting and myself. Each painting can be a culmination of up to 20-30 layers added and taken away, taking anywhere from a week to several months per painting to reach completion. During this time I am in a relationship with this piece and learn its meaning and significance, understanding what the painting has to teach me and show me.  Often there is contradiction and tension -  fuel for the creative fire.  The blending and glazing of colours, the scratching and removing of paint to reveal under colours, the embedding of collage ephemera, the use of pencil and conte markings and scribblings all expressions of feelings of the beauty and the pain, the freedom and the frustration, the evolution and feelings of being stuck all encompassed in this journey of life. These are the fragments of my life.

Original Mixed Media Abstract Painting Just Sold 'Should I Stay?'

This original one-of-a-kind modern contemporary spiritually inspired abstract mixed media painting was recently shipped to Ms. K. Decker in Toledo, Ohio. Ms. D, Thank you for becoming a collector of my original artwork! It is one of my great pleasures to pack up art and ship is across this great continent to an appreciative and new art collector! I trust you will enjoy your painting !

This textured original piece of modern art was created with hand-writing in india ink for its ground layer and then built up with layers of acrylics, sand and gesso .

The predominant colours of this painting are burgundy, a dark shade of red with a purplish tinge, symbolizing wealth, power, and ambition.

The original painting was inspired by large handwritten words of angst and indecision, hence the title ‘Should I stay?’. In my creative and life process, I often journal to figure things out. In doing so, transform what is a creative tension (a situation where disagreement or discord) ultimately allowing it to give rise to better ideas or outcomes: namely - artwork.

In regards to the process of creating this painting, the quote from Brenee brown really encapsulates how I feel about it;

“Art has the power to render our sorrow beautiful and has the power to transform despair into hope”

- Brenee Brown

Self Kindness Painting - Up Close Video

These paintings bring in the energetic frequency for you in support of you caring for yourself. A reminder and support for to consciously practice being kind to yourself. The ultimate benefit being that we always treat others around us how we treat ourselves, so as we practice and grow in treating ourselves kindly, we will develop a "stronger muscle" of kindness for others!

There are many ways we can be kind to ourselves and personally I am still learning and growing in this area of my life. Lately, I am practicing loving and appreciating where I am and what I have now - being really at peace with HERE and NOW (in contrast to yearning to be elsewhere or having or doing anything other than being here), this is a way I am showing myself kindness.

I love what Ellen Degeneres says at the end of each of her shows; "Be kind to one another". This starts with ourselves! Self Kindness! xoxox

The original paintings on the date of this post are available for purchase and as prints and giclees you can order here: https://www.saatchiart.com/all?query=self+kindness+deb+chaney

Behind the Scenes -Creating Lifetime Connections

Hello friends, art lovers, artists ! This is a little video clip - behind the scenes - I took during the process of creating my recent commission painting 'LifeTime Connections' whereby I started with laying a ground of reverse transfer recipes which were given to me by the school that were the patrons for this painting. The recipes have so much love meaning and joy in them and I wanted to start the piece in this way. I apologize in advance for the super annoying sound of the water sprayer! As my video editing skills become more savvy ( don't hold your breathe, this is quite the learning journey) I would hope to edit out awful sounds! Anyways. LOL. Enjoy! To your creative empowerment, Deb

Lifetime Connections Commission Painting Complete & Delivered

This commissioned painting, is entitled ‘Lifetime Connections’ and after a year of creative incubation and several months of labor, now complete, it is my pleasure to deliver her to her patrons. Please DO look closely at the painting, because within the layers you will see collage paper os old hymn book pages and recipes both intentionally embedded into this piece. Combined with layers of acrylics and my signature abstract contemporary style of paining, the piece brings the old and the new. The piece transforms what were dark places into the light, it is about hope and new beginnings, it brings the possibility that where there is darkness, there can be light.
