Places Where Connection Feels Safe

As I continue developing this new series, I found myself stepping back from the larger paintings for a moment and creating four small studies instead.

What sparked them was a soft butter-lemon yellow colour from another painting—just a single colour that stayed with me and quietly pulled me forward.

As I worked on these little pieces, adding and subtracting layers, scraping, adjusting, and responding to the materials, I eventually placed them together on top of a larger painting so I could see them in conversation with one another. That’s the moment captured in this video.

Looking at them together, I reflected on the idea at the heart of this series, Where We Meet, and how this butter-lemon colour reminded me of the way food creates a place for us to connect in nourishing and meaningful ways.

I believe food is its own love language, and that the best food has love as its main ingredient. When we share good food with others, we can experience a sense of safety, connection, and well-being.

I’m continuing to explore healthy connection in this new series. If something here speaks to you, I’d love to hear from you—you can reach me through my Contact page.
