Big thank you to Oscar Santolalla for featuring me on his fantastic podcast ‘Time to Shine’ - a work of art in itself for inspiring speakers! Had so much fun sharing ideas and inspiration!
Deb Chaney is a Contemporary Abstract Artist, Author, and Speaker. Her life’s work is to inspire people. She does this in a variety of ways: she gives talks, writes books, and she facilitates workshops. She also passionately paints contemporary abstract paintings which add beauty and healing energy to people’s work and living spaces. What Deb deeply believes in, is that we are all artists, and that each of us is in the process of creating our own masterpiece – our life. With the work she does, she inspires and empowers people on that creative journey.
Deb attended a workshop held by Tony Robbins. Her main dream at that time was to have a big art opening for her own artwork. During the workshop she got inspired by Robbins’ life of contribution. She had a visualization of contributing to other artists, and she made the decision to share how she found inspiration and stayed inspired. That is how “Illuminate the Artist Within” started.
Deb admires Taylor Swift, who has written every song on each of her albums. Through her songs Taylor articulates with words what she is feeling, especially with storytelling. Deb considers the song “Back to December” a masterpiece.
Deb also finds three similarities between paintings and speeches:
Deb empowers and inspires people in their own creative process in three ways:

Begin with the end in mind. A really good talk is like a train, you must know well where you are headed and how you’re going to finish.
Thank you Marina Milner-Bolotin for your inspiring talk at Toastmasters a few weeks back and this fantastic quote, my current inspirational favourite! "Success is not final. Failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts." - Winston Churchill. Need support to get courageous for your next step with painting? For reference I'm calling the rooms; the green room, the sink room, and office room 1 & 2. Pictured above.
Please do leave your comments below with a link from my website to the piece you think would fit in the specified room. I'm excited to see your ideas
And, as a thank you for those that participate, if the good doctor chooses your recommendation, I'd like to offer you one of the following: 50% off an original piece of my artwork or 25% off the painting workshop I am offering in Vancouver, BC in April.
Big thanks to Alyson Stanfield for showcasing an image of me with my Fragments of Life Series Paintings by Deb Chaney paintings in her blog article; 5 Crucial Things To Do After Your Art Openings. I have worked with Alyson in the past and highly recommend her programs and coaching in support of professional visual artists. This article is succinct and well written, valuable for all exhibiting artists. My favourite tip is to keep the gallery space alive! So true, energy is what ultimately attracts us to things, even if we are not consciously aware of it. At my last exhibit at Gallery 117 in Delta with fellow Vancouver artist Amy Bjorn , we had two handsome and talented musicians come and play live during the show! Some of us even started dancing!

Over the holidays, my daughter Ruthie and I went to visit my friend Liz, and ended up having a beautiful chat and connection with her sister, Yolanta. Yolanta shared with me about ‘a little bird told me’ and the ‘brave girls club’ and showed me an example of the weekly inspirational and positive emails she receives each week from these soulful, uplifting, and creative women. Brave Girls. She also shared that they were looking for bird art submission for their newsletter. I just love what these Brave Girls are doing and I got excited when I saw the art call. So, after we got home, Ruthie and I got out the paints and collage materials and made a bunch of little birdie themed art pieces. This Red & Green birdie piece we made together and is about 5” x 7” postcard size. Thank you Brave Girls for showing our artwork on your newsletter! Deb

Where Spirituality meets Physicality, is a series of abstract landscape paintings by Deb Chaney that were created while exploring into the question; where does spirituality meet physicality? In each painting, the earth/ground represents the physical nature of existence where the artist uses heavy body acrylics and mediums such a modeling paste with raw earth materials such as sand, salt and paper collage to create thick textured earthy matter: "Physicality". The sky/upper portion of each painting represents the spiritual nature of existence where the artist taps into the unseen realm of spirit, faith, surrender, trust, and inner listening allowing these to guide her gestural manipulation of watered down liquid acrylics and polymer mediums to express: "Spirituality". The act and and process of creating these painting allows the artist to gain insight into this question of where and perhaps how spirituality and physicality meet. Each painting reveals its answer to the artist through its final name.
